Sometimes the best motivation to make something is to annoy a friend.

and then continue annoying that friend with more bad jokes…

A couple of years ago a group of friends and myself participated in a bunch of 48 hour-type film contests. The most committed of us to the idea were a core ensemble from Baltimore. They actually were pretty serious about leap-frogging from these ad-hoc shorts to becoming a full fledged video production studio.
As a way to sharpen some skills they convinced a group of us Philadelphians to participate in a contest with them where we would set aside a week out of each month to make a short film. Each month we would take turns listing a set of criteria that we would have to adhere to in the movie. This contest went on for a full year. Twelve movies. Exhausting!
The bulk of the work was done by myself and Matt Sutter. Thankfully, there was always a revolving door cast of girlfriends, friends, and coworkers to help out. For me the whole endeavor became almost an unwanted obligation rather than a creative outlet by the end. Matt and I would always talk about picking up where we left off but I always had my reservations.
Fast forward four years and somehow we’re back at it. Only this time we’re setting aside the whole month to make the movie. The criteria are set on the first and the movie has to be posted online by the the end of the month. On top of that we’ve got a group from New Jersey and Boston on board. All of this will hit full stride by the start of 2010 but we decided it’d be a good idea to brush off the cobwebs by making an introductory short.
